It is written to meet the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).
1. A note about who we are
The Business of Dentistry has operated for several years. Bizdent Ltd, company number 16680566, is now the company responsible for it and is the data controller for everything described here. If you subscribed, bought a ticket or joined a course before Bizdent Ltd was formed, your data has passed to Bizdent Ltd and is handled under this policy. Nothing about how we use it has widened as a result, and your rights are unchanged. You can object or unsubscribe at any time.

-
Name and email address

Your role in dentistry, and your practice or organisation, where you tell us

-
Name, email address, telephone number, job title and organisation

4. Marketing
We email people who asked us to, and people who have bought from us. Nobody else.
When you subscribe, you are consenting to emails from The Business of Dentistry about our events, courses, content and offers for dental professionals. The box is optional and never pre-ticked, and you can use this website, download our material and buy a ticket without it.
If you have bought a ticket, course or membership from us, we may email you about our own similar products under the soft opt-in in regulation 22 of PECR. You could refuse when we took your details and you can refuse in every message since.
WhatsApp and SMS are separate. We only message you on those channels if you specifically agreed to that channel. Agreeing to emails does not put you on WhatsApp.
To stop, use the unsubscribe link in any email, reply STOP to any message, or write to info@bizdentistry.com. We action it immediately and keep your address on a suppression list afterwards purely to make sure we never contact you again.
4.1 We do not give your details to other companies for their marketing
This is a deliberate change from our previous policy, and it is worth stating plainly.
We do not pass your name, email address or telephone number to any other organisation so that they can market to you. Not to sponsors, not to partners, not to associated businesses. Our previous policy said we shared contact data with a group of named partner organisations on the basis of legitimate interests. We have stopped doing that.
4.2 How sponsors and partners reach you instead
Our events are funded by sponsors, and they do want to reach our audience. There are three ways that happens, and you stay in control of all of them:
-
We email you on their behalf. The message comes from us, from our address, to our own list, and you unsubscribe from us in the usual way. The sponsor never receives your details.
-
You hand over your badge or scan at the event. If you visit a stand and let an exhibitor scan your badge, or you drop a card, you are choosing to give that company your details and they will contact you. That is your decision, made at the time, and we will tell you clearly at the event that it works that way. If you do not want a sponsor to have your details, do not let them scan you.
-
You tick a specific box. Where we do want to introduce you to a named partner, we will ask you separately, name the company, and leave the box unticked. No tick, no introduction.
We also share anonymous, aggregated audience statistics with sponsors, for example how many delegates attended and the mix of roles in the room. That contains nothing that identifies you.
5. Who we share data with
We use the following service providers, each under a written contract that allows them to act only on our instructions:
-
Intuit Mailchimp, email marketing
-
Wix, website hosting and site analytics
-
Eventify, event registration and the event app
-
Stripe, payments
-
Meta Platforms, only where you have messaged us on WhatsApp, and only to deliver those messages
-
Our course and membership platform, accountants, and IT support providers
We also disclose data where the law requires it, to regulators, law enforcement, our insurers and our professional advisers. If the business is sold or merged, data may transfer to the buyer, and we will tell you.
6. Photography and filming at events
We photograph and film our events for marketing. We rely on legitimate interests for general audience and atmosphere shots, which is normal for a conference and which we tell you about on signage, on your ticket and at registration.
You can ask us not to use a picture of you. Tell a member of the team on the day, or email info@bizdentistry.com afterwards, and we will remove it from anything we control going forward. Speakers and panellists are filmed as part of the programme and are told so in advance.
7. Sending data outside the UK
Mailchimp, Stripe, Wix and Meta are based outside the UK or store data outside it. Where personal data leaves the UK we rely on UK adequacy regulations, including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or on the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, with a transfer risk assessment. Ask us and we will tell you which one applies.
8. How long we keep things
DataRetention
Marketing list membership and the consent record behind itUntil you unsubscribe, or after 3 years with no engagement at all, whichever is sooner

Dietary and accessibility requirementsDeleted within 30 days of the event
Course, membership and CPD records7 years, so we can reissue certificates

-
To withdraw consent at any time, which does not affect anything we did beforehand
Email info@bizdentistry.com. We reply within one month and there is no charge. We only ask you to confirm your identity where we genuinely doubt it, and we ask for the least we need.
10. Cookies
We use a cookie banner to ask before setting anything that is not strictly necessary, and you can change your choice at any time. We do not run advertising or retargeting pixels on this website. Continuing to browse is not consent and we do not treat it as consent.
